In Brief: This cave was new to everyone apart from Richard. A cold, clear (and dry) night with just a short walk to the cave entrance. After some disbelief that the tiny hole was the actual entrance and not a fox hole, Richard and Margot soon disappeared from view. Mark bravely had a go but after a few feet decided that discretion was called for and retuned to sit out the trip. Next down was Mike, Karen and lastly Jenny. Due to the short delay Richard and Margot were out of sight and it wasn’t obvious which of the small gaps visible was the route to follow. This was solved when Richard’s light and voice appeared from a minute gap in the floor. Nothing further remained but to dive head first and wriggle.

Continued: Mostly too low to look anywhere except to the side and with right angle bends that required some ingenuity to work out the correct method to get through, eventually everyone emerged into the incredible first chamber. Small but perfectly formed, the main chamber and passage had an amazing collection of water features on floor and roof but the star attraction was the clusters of Aragonite crystals all over the passage roof. A cave to take lots of photos in. The return journey was slightly more slick than the incoming helped by the usual cave mud lubricant. Very cold on the outside was proven by gloves sticking to the field gate back at the cars where most people decided to give the pub a miss on this occasion.Write up by Mike Clemance |
