In Brief:

On a sultry evening a small party gathered on the Mayers Way parking lot and changed into caving gear. Surprisingly this included Dave, who had never before been seen in a cave by at least one of the party members.  In extra good spirits we walked up to the cave, where Rupert managed to open the fairly uncooperative gate. In we went! Respectfully passing a lesser horseshoe bat we moved to the first major chamber, the name of which I didn’t catch. In spite of the slipperiness it was a good opportunity for some pictures, and for Dave to conscientiously tidy up and remove some garment of sorts, apparently left behind by a previous party.

Continued:

The next passage, to the Red Corridor (or whatever it’s called) provided some challenges concerning slippery rock faces with a lack of evident footholds, but we all came through without noteworthy issues. From what I will call the Red corridor we scurried away in all sorts of directions, sliding and climbing into interesting-looking recesses, after which we pulled our most glamorous smiles for a small photo shoot. We then parted ways; Dave had done enough squeezing for a day and would take the same way back, while the rest pushed on, randomly clambering around through the bat poo to get some dexterity practice. After a notorious passage we saw light again; not only the entrance came in sight again, but also Dave’s helmet lamp.

In the fading evening light we transformed into civilians again, and celebrated that fact in the Boringdon Arms. A successful trip!=
