In Brief:

This trip was organized by Bill Tollfrey who contacted me with a request to lead a party into Bedford United Mine Marquis Load. We arranged to meet at the Dukes Drive on the Devon side of the Tamar for 10:00. There was a few moans about the earliness of the meeting time, but we soon found are selves entering the mine via the gated entrance. Soon the entrance pitch was rigged and then the 60 foot winze. Once all down we then proceeded through the hard Rock Cafe were we paused for a while, the proceeded to Marquis shaft.

Continued:

After the break we found ourselves climbing the water fall up to the 35fm level leading on into he hill. After crossing at lead three exposed holes in the floor we reached the end of the level.

WE then retraced our steps back through the mine to the entrance winze, Two of us decide rather than wait we would explore the deep adit level back towards the entrance. We passed the level that is believed to be the site of the underground water wheel, and got as far as the entrance traverse. After this point the deads had fallen in blocking the way out. We retraced our foot steps back up the winze.

Once all out we congregated at the Chipshop inn for a quick pint  then we all went our separate ways.
