In Brief:

This was an alternative trip into a Cornish mine adit, as the main trip was to be Bunkers. After meeting at a convenient lay-by, it was off to a mine situated on the side of a steep bank. This was to be a trip into one of the shallow adits, unlike the usual trips into the deep adit level.

Some time w, in as spent examining the artifacts left behind when the mine closed, in particular the remains of a flat rod system powered from a water wheel situated below the adit mouth.

Continued:

At the site where the shaft intersects the level the remains of an angle bob could be seen underneath the run in shaft. This would of transferred the motion of the flat rods from horizontal to vertical, powering the pump rods.

On the Southern side of the level could been seen some beautiful stone walling, these stacked deads holding back tones of waste rock. At various points where this walling has collapsed, we could get a glimpses of the stope above.

Some of the group exited the level and climbed the steep hill in search of the  entrance to the hire stope, and found that it had run in along with the shaft. The group then spent a short while exploring the remains of the surface building whilst Lionel and Finbar dropped down and explored the usual lower adit.

We all met up back at the cars for a quick changed, and off to the local pub.
